I am in desperate need of pen recommendations. I've been grooving with the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen for a little bit, but I've been feeling like maybe I'm not a brush person. I want to try out some less-fluid pens for comics and was wondering if you guys had specific ones you liked?

It'd be nice to go out to an art store and just try crap out, but the nearest one is a little bit of a drive, so I'll have to order online, and I want make sure if I have to pay for shipping I'm getting quality stuff!

I'm curious about the double sided Blick Studio Markers - I love the idea of just having to turn the marker over to fill in dark parts. But I get a little wary of anything that's double sided!

Alvin Penstix interest me too, but I REALLY have never heard anything about them...

What pens do you guys use, do you LOVE them? I'm also looking into getting a gray marker for shading, so any recs on that too would be appreciated!

Okay so maybe this is a little late, but... I must!

Just a quick note:
I have used the Blick studio markers; and while I'm no expert I do have to say that I prefer the thicker chisel-tip end on Prismacolor markers. [link]
It's thicker and sturdier (some of my Blick ones have been pushed into the tube, and I'm not really rough with my markers.) The Prismacolor ones are also nicely rounded - the Blick tips have sharp corners and edges. The thin tips on both are basically identical though.
I also find that the Prismacolors lay down color more evenly.

Admittedly, the Prismacolors are quite a bit more expensive. Both are good and get the job done, but I do prefer the Prismas!

I just use Microns (because they're cheap). An 005, an 03, and an 05 make a good kit.

How about dip pen and ink? They are plenty cheap, and you choose the type of ink you want. Colour ink is exciting! I use Tachikawa G-pen nib and Hunt School nib and a variety of others... There are lots to choose from so it depends on the availability at your art store.

I have had bad, bad experiences with dip pen, I don't know if I have the patience to learn it properly...

That reminds me that I saw people in my class just flipping over their ink container.... that was a disaster. XD; I hope it wasn't like that for you.

I use the Pentel "fude" which is the pen I think u used to use, i love it. I use it coupled with uni-pin fine liners 0.2, 0.5 for detail. I say get sum fineliners and stick with the "fude" it adds so much character to your inking, tis the stuff of legends, lol :)
